Attention Duelists! We’re back for another equip spell supporting the Mythical Radiance Dragon archetype. What we saw yesterday was a battle-centric card that allows for piercing, summoning, re-equiping, and position manipulation. So one might ask – what else can we do? Well Konami has some new ideas and some old ideas. Here’s the card!
That is fantastic artwork!! I love this card. What a boss! You want your terrifying monster to look intimidating and to be fair most cards do succeed in making powerful monsters look strong and majestic. This borders on hilarious. Few things explain how scary a monster is better than the look of fear in another monster’s eyes. I would want to build/run this deck – just – to hit that card. Best ever.
But for all of my love of the depiction we really do need to see what’s under the hood. Is it any good? Well let’s find out.
Equip only to a Normal Monster. It gains 500 ATK. When the equipped monster destroys an opponent’s monster by battle: You can Special Summon 1 “Spiral, the Mythic Radiance Dragon” from your hand, Deck, or Graveyard, and if you do, equip this card to it, then inflict 1000 damage to your opponent. You can only use this effect of “Spiral Hold of the Mythic Radiance Dragon” once per turn.
Ok so another battle-centric equip. I’m pretty sure that I’m right about the vanilla beatdown deck theme.
So normal locked, of course. But it’s themed so we expected as much.
+500 ATK isn’t impressive. Sorry it’s just not. It’s going in the right direction, better to +500 than -500 but it really isn’t that big. I mean, hey, that 500 might just be the wallbreaker you need. I’ll always take a plus over a minus, but I won’t pretend that it’s gamebreaking.
The next point is the summoning effect where you can special summon a Spiral the Mythic Radiance Dragon from your hand, deck, or graveyard if the monster equipped with this card destroys a monster by battle. This allows for pressuring in the battle phase and if you summon Spiral you shift this equip card to him. Spiral will gain that +500 becoming a 3400 beatstick. Which that’s not too shabby.
Finally, if you equipped this card to Spiral with the aforementioned effect you can burn the opponent for 1000 LP. Burn seems a little weird in what would otherwise be a straightforward beatdown deck but I like it. It’s not like you just dropped a random Ookazi in your build. This card serves to get Spirals on board and beef them up. The fact you can shave 1/8 of their LP in the process just speeds things up.
It’s a once per turn card but losing 1000 LP each turn and facing a new Spiral each time is not how I would want to spend my duel.
I would personally prefer Spiral Crash over this, but that’s not to say I think this card is bad. I think it’s different and I would definitely run 2-3 of this in a dedicated Spiral deck.
Well kids that’s all for now. The holidays have been wreaking havoc on my schedule so I’m hoping to normalize it soon. But stay tuned for our next issue and remember what grandma always says:
You can’t go play until you finish all your Spinnach!
