After a couple days off we’re back in the saddle and we’ve got reservations! Ah nothing like a beautiful sandy coastline, sun, waves, Charming Resort Staff, and a super advanced monitoring station behind a false wall … Wait, what? Well that seems to be what we’re working with – no matter what the location, when Super Agent is on a mission, Master Plan is on the ground monitoring the situation from a field HQ.
Your opponent cannot target other “SPYRAL” cards you control with card effects. Once per turn: You can add 1 “SPYRAL” monster from your Deck to your hand. Once per turn, during your End Phase, shuffle 1 monster from your Graveyard into the Deck or destroy this card.
This is a great field spell. Context: a great field spell doesn’t kill your whole team if it dies (Toon Kingdom or that god-awful Nordic Lights), it provides a meanfingful bonus (unlike say Mountian), but provides multi-layered support.
First off: anti-targeting. You can only target the field spell. While this may not seem like a big deal, I assure you that it is. There are far and away more cards that target than not and what’s more is there are far fewer cards that have built in anti-targeting than people seem to think.
Searching! We all love it. While it is somewhat limited to SPYRAL monsters only and not spells or traps. That is buoyed by the lack of any cost. Just once per turn grab a monster. It’s pretty sweet.
Now this card does have a maintenance cost that at the end of your turn you have to destroy this card if you don’t shuffle a monster from your graveyard back into the deck… (record scratches) wait, what?
Let me get this straight – your “cost” is recycling my graveyard? And that’s not even specifically SPYRAL monsters, just “a monster”. Certainly this is a crummy first turn play – you probably don’t have much in your graveyard (if anything at all) and even then … This card works much better during the mid-game. Late game your resources might be pinched for searching, but to start extending your deck – especially if the other guy is running out of resources.
Honestly the resort is fantastic but let me tell you about the staff…
