#Yugioh Card Review – D/D/D Gust High King Executive Alexander

One of my favorite D/D monsters is Alexander. Stronger than Genghis and while his special summon ability is capped at Lv. 4 – his triggers on normal and special summons alike. His upgrade follows suit nicely. Stronger than the upgraded Genghis, he retains his first ability and picks up a secondary effect.

Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
While there are 3 or more “D/D/D” monsters on the field, this card gains 3000 ATK. If another “D/D” monster(s) is Normal or Special Summoned to your field, while you control this face-up card (except during the Damage Step): You can target 1 “D/D” monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it. You can only use this effect of “D/D/D Gust High King Executive Alexander” once per turn.

Gust High King Executive Alexander is a Lv 10 WIND Synchro with stats to match Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Now to be honest, 3000/2500 really isn’t all that spectacular for a Lv 10 synchro.

So with the original effect still intact, Exec. Alexander can summon a Lv. 4 or lower D/D from graveyard once per turn when you normal or special summon a D/D. Now we all know how that normally runs, with Exec. Alexander he’s not just what you use to pivot into Crystal Wing or Siegfried. He’s more like the end of the play – why? Because..

While there are 3 or more ‘D/D’ monsters on the field (other than this card), this card’s ATK is doubled. Now can we be real for a minute? D/D/D is a combo-heavy deck that can play control/lockdown, spam beatdown, there’s OTK’s and stalls like crazy. My point is that there is precious little difficulty getting monsters out. For crying out loud, Exec. Alexander summons when something else hits the field. So with your 2 monsters flanking Alexander his attack skyrockets to a ridiculous 6000.

Beatsticks aren’t really as menacing as they “should” be but 6000 is pretty fricken good. Alone, Alexander, doesn’t have any protection to speak of. So again there’s protection to be had – but it really relegates Alexander to hitting the field when either the coast is clear or you’ve already got options on board.

Fact of the matter is that if you field thus guy with some support – he can end that game in a big hurry.
