So after a short break, we’re back with Chemicritters and today we’re looking at Oxy Ox – and he’s the cutest one yet!
Oxy Ox is one of the primary playmakers of the deck and you’ll see just how integral he really is.
This card is treated as a Normal Monster while face-up on the field or in the Graveyard. While this card is a Normal Monster on the field, you can Normal Summon it to have it become an Effect Monster with this effect.
● During your Main Phase: You can Special Summon 1 Gemini monster from your hand, and if you do, all Gemini monsters you currently control become that monster‘s original Level until the end of this turn. You can only use this effect of “Chemicritter Oxy Ox” once per turn.
Oxy Ox is actually pretty good for a couple of reasons, as a lv. 2 wind beast he has 0/2100 stats. Sorry, what? While we can all agree that 2100 of anything on a lv. 2 is impressive, I know many are disappointed that it’s DEF as opposed to ATK. But this does give you a decent wall if you don’t have a better play available.
Ox’s effect on the other hand is spectacular. Once per turn you can special summon a gemini monster (again, just gemini, not Chemicritter, so it’s generic within the theme) from your hand to the field and all gemini monsters you control become the same level as the summoned monster.
So if you play Ox and Supervise him or you tutored him out with Blazewing Butterfly, whatever – if his effect is live and you bring out Dioxogre, Oxy Ox and every other gemini you have will adopt Dioxogre’s lv. 8.
He enables splash plays of all kinds. Most people just think XYZ spam and for good reason, it’s the natural direction of the deck. However, the less popular Tuned Magician becomes a Tuner upon being gemini summoned. And given Oxy Ox’s level changing ability if you brought out Magician first then you could tune a field of lv. 2’s. Bring him out with Ox and now you’re in lv.8 synchro territory. You actually have the possibility of many different combinations with this spicy tech.
You can snag Old Entity Hastorr with mix ups like this and he is a nasty little surprise, let me tell you.
Oxy Ox is a great card, a definite staple at 3 and opens up you XYZ plays giving you near immediate access to the Chemicritter’s final boss but also a more daring player will open up the synchros as well. He’s compact, easy to use, and is one of few defensive stalling options the deck has. He’s one tough little Ox.
