#Yugioh Card Review – Vola-Chemicritter Methydraco

The bossiest of bosses in the Chemicritter family, Methydraco is a piece of work.  Stunning artwork, big body, defense and disruption – Methydraco may not be the ultimate Rank 8, but he’s the top Chemicritter for good reason.

2 Level 8 Gemini monsters
When this card is Xyz Summoned: You can target 1 Gemini monster in your GraveyardSpecial Summon it. While this card has Xyz Materialmonsters your opponent controls cannot target Gemini monsters you control for attacks, also your opponent cannot target Gemini monsters you control with card effects. When a Gemini monster is Normal Summoned: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; make your opponent send 1 card from their hand or field to the Graveyard (their choice).
So let’s take a peek at his vitals.  He’s a Rank 8 Gemini monster, Fire type, Beast-Warrior with 3000/3000 stats.

First point is that while he requires Gemini materials, it’s generic Gemini materials.  You don’t need Chemicritter monsters, per se.  Your build might have Darkstorm Dragon, probably Phoenix Gearfried, no big Chemicritter monsters on deck?  No problem!

Yay for passive skills.  Passives are like the door prizes, here’s what you get for showing up:  Gemini monsters can’t be targeted for attacks or card effects.  That’s pretty good.  Will it stop Raigeki? No.  But he only gets one of those, so the opponent better make it count.  The no attacking will help you set up field, so long as you can keep Methydraco healthy.

But in the event that you’re looking for something to spend those materials on: look no further!  Effect#2 states when a Gemini monster is normal summoned, you can detach one to force your opponent to send a card (1) from their hand or field to the grave.  Now this is tricky..  See “when” creates that gap where it can miss timing, however one can argue that this is irrelevant because it’s your own normal summon.  But it’s a fact regardless.  Also with the abundance of cards that function in/with the graveyard, you need to be picky about using this card.

I know that you would typically go Oxy Ox into Dioxogre for Methydraco, but I would insist that if you’re interested in Methydraco then field him with Dioxogre.  It just maximises those defenses.  And just gove you more upfront power.

Used effectively, Vola-Chemicritter Methydraco is a winning formula!
